Tips on What to Wear for your Portrait Session

The most often asked question is “what should I wear?” The answer is whatever your family is most comfortable in. First of all, relax! Our photography sessions are very laid-back and we want you to feel as comfortable as possible and enjoy it! Here are a few suggestions to make your photos even better.

  • Wear solid colored clothing - or a small minimalistic pattern, no text or words on clothing, it will distract from everyons face.
  • Choose 1-3 colors for your group portrait -ones with similar tones that go nicely together and have everyone within that color palette. For example: dark green, navy, and burgundy – all dark tones. OR tan, a lighter olive green, and denims – all lighter, softer tones. Light blues, greens, coral, or any pastels are great for the beach. Khaki or beige shorts / pants come in a variety of shades. Lay them all out next to each other and make sure the shades are similar. The same goes for jeans and jean shorts…choose jeans in the same color range. Remember: all light clothing or all dark clothing, don't mix the two.
  • Choose a solid color tie -  or small minimalistic pattern is best to not be distracting. beach portraits tend to be on the more casual side with no tie.
  •  Keep jewelry simple -  You don't want it to distract from your face.
